This waterproof metal detector is fantastic for my underwater adventures. As a scuba diver and hobbyist treasure hunter, I was looking for a detector that could withstand the rigours of saltwater and provide accurate readings even in challenging conditions. The built-in rechargeable battery lasts a long time, so I don’t have to worry about running out of power during a dive. The metal detector has three modes-vibration, sound, and both-which makes it easy to use in different environments. The LED light alarm is really helpful in dark or murky waters. It’s lightweight, easy to carry, and very responsive, quickly detecting metal objects.

Here’s a premature review as I won’t be doing any sub-aqua for a few weeks, but I’ve tested this in my garden pond and it is certainly waterproof and detects items as small as coins at at least six inches away. It has a nice balance and angle that should be ideal for sweeping the sea bed. Easy to charge and the port / switch cover does a good job of keeping the water out (just be sure not to cross thread it). I’m not sure the sound option will be loud enough to hear in the ocean but the vibration and light detection alerts should work well in both bright and low light conditions respectively. In the meantime, I’ve been doing some DIY and found this great for finding studs in dry-wall and electric cables, not it’s primary function but works well whilst I dream of finding treasure on my upcoming trip.

The OMMO Underwater Pinpointer Metal Detector arrived nicely packaged in a full colour printed cardboard box bearing the OMMO branding and showing an image of the device.In the box you get the metal detector unit, a security lanyard, a USB A to USB C charging cable, a waterproof end cap and a comprehensive instruction manual.The detector is impressively finished in a bright orange and black colour scheme.The detector has a rechargeable 1600mAh battery and charges quickly using a standard 5v DC USB source.Although designed a a pinpointer, the unit functions well as a standalone detector for snorkelling in shallow water and in this role it works well, detecting small coins and some pieces of jewellery up to around 4 inches deep in the sand.Good value for a professional unit.

This is an interesting item to review as its main function of detecting metal underwater is quite a challenge. I must admit that we have tested it but only in the confines of our garden and latterly in our local gym swimming pool where it was used to try and locate a small piece of jewellery.First off and the most important issue is does it work? Indeed it does and demonstrated that it could locate a coin on the bottom of a 4ft deep swimming pool. It also worked really well in the garden sweeping back and forth over a defined area looking for and finding, small coins. All good so far and well up to 5 stars. The unit is pretty robust, detects metal and is suitable for use up to 50ft depth (quite a depth for a normal person snorkelling). Major feature for me is that it is rechargeable and the 1600 mAh battery provides capacity for long use. It certainly should last providing the seals hold on the cap which protects the switch and charging port.So are there any negatives? None as such but there are limiting factors, primarily, how long you can stay underwater for, particularly as any additional effort underwater, particularly removing debris to access your “find” depletes your oxygen quite quickly. There are three warning options, sound, beeping and a flashing light. All work, with the vibration and flashing light most useful underwater in our opinion.So did we find the errant item? No, sadly there are numerous steel rods buried in the substructure of the pool and even if they weren’t there, the approximate location of the item when it was dropped isn’t know and a 300 sq m pool is a lot to search when swimming underwater.I think we are likely to get the most use from this at our local beach during the summer months when scouring water up to knee deep at low tide might reveal some interesting finds! Our young nephew will occupy himself for hours with this annd so will I supervising him. I can anlso see me using this to find bits of metal in our garden which shouldn’t be there; I am not confident I would use it for serious metal detecting as it would be tiring trying to cover large areas of ground on my hands and knees. Other than that, I can’t see me getting into scuba diving, but if I did, I think it would be useful.

Can’t wait to go on holiday and try this properly. When the package first arrived I was surprised about the weight. This feels very solid and quite heavy, whereas I was expecting a flimsy plastic toy type item. In the box there is the metal detector, USB lead, manual, snap lanyard and two end caps that keeps the water out of the charging port. On the side of the detector are two buttons. One is the power button. The other is the function button. The function button allows you to have either audio and vibrate vibrate only or audio only. It seems okay, but personally I prefer audio and vibrate. The detector itself is very sensitive and as per the instructions, the vibrate and audio signal become more frequent the closer you get to an object, this works well if not a little too sensitive for my liking. The charging port is situated in the end of the handle along with the reset button. As explained, you receive two end caps to help keep this area waterproof, two end caps is a great idea because I am sure at some point one will be lost. The detector charges quickly, although there are no visual signs that it is actually on charge. I would like to see either a red, green LED or some other form of charging indicator but it’s not the end of the world, I decided to charge it overnight to make sure it’s ok. I will be giving this a full vigorous test when I go on holiday next and should I need to report anything extra in this review I will update then but for now I am very impressed that it is so solid and usable for the current price.

This waterproof metal detector is excellent for my underwater treasure hunts. It’s easy to use and works well even at depths of 50 feet. The vibration and sound alerts make it simple to detect metals, and the LED light is great for low visibility conditions. The rechargeable battery lasts a long time, which is a big plus. It’s sturdy and built to handle tough environments, making it a great tool for both beginners and experienced users.

It’s a shame I didn’t pick this up three weeks earlier, as I could have really put this product through it’s paces when I went diving, though I did manage to bring it to my short stay on the coast last week and took it out to the beach and into around 1.5m of water.It worked pretty well, I used the vibration only mode for scouring inside the water where I was able to find a few random metal items about 5-10cm under the sand in the water, no buried treasure though! The light + vibration was very handy, as the frequency it flashes/pulsates increases as you get closer to an object. It worked fine in the sea water with no water ingress to the hidden USB port thanks to the rubber seal on the cap, and it’s still working perfectly fine now a a week later. Outside of the sea, I used it to find a few coins and more metal trash, this time using both sound and vibration which I found more effective as the sound was more distinct when it was closer to an object. I found it can detect up to around 10-15cm of sand.Very nice and compact, it fits well inside both my rucksack and suitcase. I haven’t even charged it yet since taking it out of the box, and it still has juice it it after a few hours of usage. It has a screwcap that has a rubber seal which covers the charging port and reset button.. charges with USB Type-C which is handy as you can just use your phone charger or a power bank instead of having to carry extra wires around with you. Includes a spare cap with rubber seal should you lose the first one, or if it gets damaged.Would recommend!
